About Sook Yee Lai

Member for Bibra Lake

Meet Sook Yee

Hello and welcome! I’m Sook Yee Lai, your local Labor Member for Bibra Lake.

I was elected to the Legislative Assembly in March 2025 and I am honoured to represent this vibrant and diverse community and advocate strongly for the needs and interests of all constituents.

I was raised on Western Australia’s remote Christmas Island before moving to Perth as a teenager where I attended school in my electorate.

As a proud alumna of Murdoch University, I greatly value the education and experiences I gained while completing my double undergraduate degree in Asian Studies and Education.

Prior to being elected,  I've had the opportunity to work as a high school teacher and in the mining industry. These experiences have shaped my understanding of our community's unique needs and aspirations.

As a former teacher, I am passionate about giving our kids the best start to their lives. I am a strong supporter of our local schools and look forward to working closely with families and P&Cs to get great results for our local students.

As a proud mum of three who took time out of the workforce to raise my young family, I understand how cost of living pressures can impact a household and will work tirelessly to create better opportunities for all as part of Premier Roger Cook's team to keep WA strong.
